Vojtěch Petráček has been part of many important institutions, both domestically and abroad. In the year 2004, he joined the Faculty of Nuclear and Physical Engineering CTU, where he later became an associate professor in 2007. His role at the faculty involves teaching experimental physics, relativistic physics of heavy ions, and subatomic physics. He is also the guarantor of the Experimental Nuclear Physics programme. Additionally, Mr Petráček leads a research team working in ALICE, CBM and AEGIS experiments; in the framework of the experiment ALICE, he was responsible for the design and implementation of the linear silicon drift detector (SDD) in 1998, for which he was awarded the AV Award for Young Scientists of the Czech Republic. For his activities in the field of detectors he is a two-time honouree of the Rector's Prize awarded by CTU. Mr Petráček's primary fields of interest are the physics of ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions and particle physics, the experimental and theoretical aspects of which are central to his research at FJFI CTU alongside his students and colleagues. From 2010 to 2015 he was Vice-Rector for Science and Research at CTU in Prague, and has been the Rector of CTU since 1 February 2018. He is largely engaged in security research in cooperation with the Czech Army.
