Digital Democracy is a concept introduced since the beginning of computer sciences, with fast-past advances in new technologies being the one aspect of development that was believed to connect individuals in manners never seen since the beginnings of society. There are several key aspects of democracy affected by the digitalization of the 21st century: citizen’s representation, governance, and the activism and implication of individuals. Some of the most significant examples of how relationships between the state and individuals can be affected by digitalization include streamlining or reducing bureaucratic processes in any institutions, the increasing the transparency of the political and legislative decisions and the increase in citizen’s access to information and participation in democratic processes.
What are the effects of digitalization on democratic process? What are the main opportunities and risks?
